Title: Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program
Agency:  U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)
Deadline: May 26, 2026

The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the FY 2026 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program, a major initiative authorized under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) that supports planning, infrastructure, and behavioral initiatives aimed at reducing roadway fatalities and serious injuries for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and motorists. Eligible applicants include metropolitan planning organizations, local governments, Tribal governments, and multijurisdictional partnerships, with a minimum 20 percent non-federal match required (with some exceptions). Funding can be used to develop or enhance comprehensive safety action plans, conduct demonstration activities, and implement infrastructure and operational projects that improve roadway safety.

Applications are due May 26, 2026, with earlier deadlines for eligibility reviews and technical questions, and must be submitted electronically through the Valid Eval platform. Proposals will be evaluated based on criteria such as safety need and impact, cost effectiveness, and stakeholder engagement. As always, the Build America Center (BAC) offers no-cost technical assistance to help applicants navigate federal funding opportunities and develop competitive applications.
