Title: Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM) Grant Program
Agency: U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)
Deadline: May 22, 2026
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM) Grant Program, which provides funding to support the repair, rehabilitation, and replacement of high-risk, leak-prone natural gas distribution infrastructure. The program is designed to improve safety, reduce incidents and fatalities, and prevent economic losses by helping public and community-owned utilities modernize aging systems and acquire advanced equipment such as leak detection and line locating technologies.
Eligible applicants include municipal governments, community-owned utilities, and Tribal governments, with funding available for both construction projects and equipment-only initiatives that address critical infrastructure risks. Applications are due May 22, 2026, and must be submitted through Grants.gov. As always, the Build America Center (BAC) offers no-cost technical assistance to help applicants navigate federal funding opportunities and develop competitive applications.
