The Denali Commission has announced a new funding opportunity through its Rural Transportation Match and Gap Funding Assistance Program, offering $5 million to support construction-ready transportation projects in rural Alaska. This program is designed to help communities that lack sufficient local resources by covering up to 30% in match or gap funding, enabling critical projects to move forward. Eligible applicants include Tribal governments, local and county governments, school districts, and nonprofit organizations, with funding available for a range of surface and waterfront transportation projects—such as road safety improvements, rural transit enhancements, trails and walkways, port and harbor upgrades, and boat launch facilities. Awards range from $50,000 to $1 million, with priority given to entities that do not currently have active Denali Commission transportation awards. Statements of Interest are due February 13, 2026 (5:00 PM Alaska Standard Time). As always, the Build America Center offers no-cost technical assistance to help eligible communities assess fit, prepare materials, and strengthen their submissions.
